Corona Pandemic: Crisis or Opportunity?

Alexandra Cacavas

The measures adopted by most European countries in the past week make this a good time to explain current events using the current planetary transits.

The heavy star cluster that has gathered in Capricorn (Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, South Node) and the predominant earth energy these past few months wield great influence on our societies. From the individual to collective circles, we are clinging to the remnants of an outdated system undergoing a process of deep mutation. The virus has forced entire nations to reorganise their structures and activities, to adapt to an unexpected and unprecedented situation, in a rigid or flexible way. From the social, economic, financial, educational and defence to healthcare spheres, all systems are forcibly being adjusted to accommodate this new reality. Pluto (destruction, death, transformation) and Saturn (order, structures, foundations) play a tremendous role in these changes, while Jupiter (expansion) ensures that these are applied and felt on a large scale. Mars speeds up this process and sparks a desire to act in these crucial times.

The safety measures taken by the European governments this week also emanate from the strong, culminating energies of the full Moon in Virgo on 9 March, energies that will be felt until the next new Moon in Aries on 24 March. Virgo is the sign of health, cleanliness, organisation and practicality, but also of devotion and being of service to others. Virgo and Full Moon energies prompted the implementation of security and health measures in most European countries during the week of 9 – 15 March.

Neptune is currently in its home sign of Pisces. Neptunian energy has played an important role in the spread of the virus, triggering confusion and uncertainty, and calling people to isolate themselves. Yet, Neptune has made us realise how connected we are: what happens to one community has an impact on the rest of the world. This realisation has given rise to important spiritual questions and reasoning. We are physically feeling the effects of globalism and realising how interdependent we are.

Uranus entered the sign of Taurus in 2018 and will be staying there until 2026. On a societal level, this transit calls for revolutionary changes in the economic and financial systems. Paired with the recent Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn, the economy is shook up and forced to undergo important changes. Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, is grounded in Taurus, with an impact on air travel and great economic consequences for the aviation industry. This does not mean that all flights will be cancelled until 2026, but that is certainly the case today. Uranus in Taurus will revolutionise the way we travel by land: expect new, faster and more environmentally friendly ways to travel in the next five years. For now, short-distance trips and land travel (car, bus or train) towards more natural environments and open spaces are favoured.

We are currently transitioning away from the Piscean Age and, slowly but steadily, moving into the Age of Aquarius. Entering a new astrological age, every 2,000 years or so, inevitably implies destroying established structures and letting go of old patters, in order to create new societies and ways of life that match the energies of the new sign. Change is inevitable and frightening, especially when it comes so unexpectedly. While the pandemic has given rise to a global state of fear, hypochondriacal tendencies and a need for isolation, it has also given rise to solidarity, humanitarian ideals and compassion for affected communities, all of the latter being Aquarian traits.

In my opinion, this period of isolation is the last hibernation before the rebirth of spring. I am not denying that the pandemic is an economic catastrophe for many businesses and has important consequences on every aspect of society, from governments to families. Nonetheless, I do believe that this health crisis is an opportunity for developing closer bonds with our families, communities and, most importantly, with ourselves. It is time to take a break, to slow down, rest, recharge and introspect; to boost the immune system with the help of exercise and good nutrition; to take up new hobbies or studies; to catch up on everything we have been postponing; to re-evaluate our habits and routines in regards to health and our bodies, and making appropriate changes to lead a healthier life. Whatever our personal situations, everyone is doing their best with what they have.

With all this in mind, do you see this pandemic as a crisis or an opportunity?
