The new Moon in Taurus enables us to find beauty in the small things and to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. It makes us forget our worries in these troublesome times by allowing us to accept our confinement as a routine rather than a restriction. A deeply healing cycle begins for us and for the Earth, but not without some challenging aspects.
While the Aries New Moon set the wheel into motion, the New Moon in Taurus enjoys the fruit of labour. Nature worked at full speed to grow and bloom, and now gets to show off her creations. The Moon in Taurus encourages us to pursue and find our passions; to enjoy what life has to offer and live in the moment; to pause and admire; to get grounded and closer to the Earth; to play with the five senses; and to strive for a quality way of life.
The new Moon in Taurus asks us to count our blessings, to be grateful for what we have and for what we often take for granted: a roof above our head, food at our table, wealth and abundance of every kind, a strong health, harmonious relationships, a steady job, etc. With the Sun in Taurus, the mood is slow and relaxed – every day feels like Sunday. The Sun and Moon inspire us to integrate this slower pace into our lives for the duration of this cycle.
The Moon in Taurus is also about deepening our relationship with the Earth. This cycle is the perfect opportunity to honour Mother Earth, establish a healthier routine, adopt environmentally-friendly habits, and practise activities that involve nature (camping, hiking, gardening, cooking, herbalism and meditation, to name a few).
The energy centres associated with Taurus are the throat and heart chakras, so working to open these chakras and remove blockages will be highly beneficial during this cycle. Ruled by Venus, divine feminine (yin) energy takes over and bids farewells to the highly masculine Aries season. This cycle, we are called to work on our emotions in a practical way, to cultivate a more balanced relationship with our physical bodies, to live in the rhythm of our cycles, and to integrate the divine yin energy into our lives.
Venus is currently in Gemini, and trine to Mars in Aquarius. This brings a desire for social contact and enjoyment of every kind. Both planets being in air signs, socialisation and sharing is done through modern technologies. This aspect makes it a good time for spending quality time with a loved one or for reviving romance in a relationship. It is also a very good time to start projects and to do something you are passionate about, as inspiration flows freely and motivation is easy to find.
Mercury (Aries) sextile Venus (Gemini) reinforces this desire for social contact, encouraging us to openly express our values and speak up for what we believe in with conviction and grace. Given the current situation (lockdown) and Gemini being an air sign, this is mostly done through modern technologies.
Moon conjunct Uranus in Taurus can lead to emotional outbursts and an itching desire for loud, eccentric expression, but can also bring flashes of insight and psychic stimulation. An important square to Saturn does not make things any easier. This cycle brings feelings of restriction and a longing for freedom, especially for those with a lot of Aquarian (or air) energy in their charts. This square brings difficult, yet necessary changes, and with it an inevitable, strong resistance. No matter how difficult, releasing resistance and practising acceptance is crucial at this time.
Earth, Fire and Air are the predominant elements during this cycle. The Water element (emotions, intuition) should not be neglected, however, as yin energy is especially important to cultivate and integrate right now. Favoured gemstones are jade for luck, abundance and balance; rose quartz for love, self-love and releasing resistance; and blue lace agate for facilitating communication and slowing down the mind.
May you find beauty in the mundane, establish a special bond with the Earth and welcome even the most drastic of changes.
