Spring Equinox – 20 March 2020

Alexandra Cacavas

Happy equinox and first day of spring!

From today, in the northern hemisphere, daylight increases, the weather gets milder and nature slowly awakens from her slumber. The first sprouts appear on the fields and the first flower buds blossom on the trees. Life speeds up and the seeds planted during the winter begin to bear fruit. Just like nature, our bodies slowly wake up, we feel the urge to move more and to spend time outside.

During the equinox (“equal night”), we celebrate the balance between day and night. The spring equinox, also called Ostara (Ēostre = Easter), celebrates the return of the light and its victory over darkness. The energy of spring is both feminine (yin – creation) and masculine (yang – action), and the aim of the season is to balance and use both energies constructively.

Today is also the beginning of a new astrological year and of Aries season (20 March – 20 April). New year, new beginning, new cycle. Now is the ideal time to make New Year’s resolutions. What would you like to accomplish this year? What would you like to change in your life? What drives your motivation, what would you like to cultivate and pursue? Where would you like to go?

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and is ruled by Mars, god of war. Aries season asks us to take risks, to spring into action, to act upon our desires, to lead with determination and to seek new experiences. It is also a time to connect with our inner child, to openly express our needs and desires, and to channel our creative energy outwards, usually through movement (sports, exercise, dancing, playing). Our inner flame comes back to life after being dormant during the winter, and Aries is the one igniting that fire. Aries energy is very masculine, and has the tendency to make us act before we think, then reaping the consequences of our actions.

Mars represents passion, courage, leadership, action, initiative, anger, sexuality and basic instincts. Mars in your birth chart indicates how you act upon your desires, what motivates and drives you, how you take the initiative, the way you express your sexuality and how you use your energy. It also indicates how you usually react, what sets you off and how you express anger.

The tarot card I drew for this equinox is the Ace of Pentacles, symbolising abundance, prosperity, opportunities and new beginnings in everything related to the material world: finances, ownership, wealth, career and physical health.

With all this being said, I wish you a wonderful equinox and spring. May your wishes come true and may the light fill your heart. Happy Aries season and happy birthday to all the Aries of the world!

Until next time,

Alexandra
