It has been two weeks since Venus went retrograde in Gemini and it is surprising to see how its effects have influenced our society in such a noticeable and symbolic way.
Gemini is represented by the twins, a symbol for duality. When the Gemini energy is poorly integrated, Gemini natives are often known to be “two-faced.” They may switch between different personalities, making it difficult to recognise which is their true nature and which is a façade. This is also due to the fact that Gemini is a mutable sign, which naturally blends and adapts itself to its environment and to social situations.
Venus, planet of appearances, is retrograde in “two-faced” Gemini. This is the perfect opportunity to reconcile both sides of our personalities – our light and shadow sides – as well as accepting both parts of our bodies – left and right – the one we love and show the world, and the one we hate and conceal.
When retrograde, Venus asks us to revaluate our appearance, the opinions of others about our appearance and the way we want to be perceived by others. After many months spent inside, we are beginning to show our faces out into the world again. We are not allowed to display ourselves fully, however, as we are being advised to wear masks – for the obvious health reasons. The strangers we see in the streets are veiled, the unique blueprint of their faces concealed. One might wonder, “What are they really like behind the mask? Can I trust what I cannot see?” Today, we save our physical appearance for the home and close relationships, making it a precious sight and adding sacred value to it. Venus also rules value and worth.
We might want to observe this phenomenon as an incubation period (no virus pun intended). We are altering the way we view physical appearance. We are caterpillars, transforming our image and giving it more value, so that we may radiate beauty and novelty once the restrictions have been lifted, just like the butterfly emerging from the chrysalis – another symbol associated with Gemini.
